The following tips have been written and collated by DJ's, Musicians and Suppliers that regularly perform at parties and events. We hope that you find them useful and take them in the spirit that they were written.
Atmosphere
Great parties have a great atmosphere, this is not as easy to achieve as you might think, It has to be worked on and should be considered carefully when organising your party. Some clients opt for a packed program of events - we played at one party where the couple had issued laminates, an interesting activity was "Skinny Dipping 4am - 6am" the guests were breathless by the time the disco started. So, It is important to pace your party and view if from your guests perspective.
Budget Properly
Decide how you want to spend your money. Do you want to hire a DJ and Band? or do you want to spend it across the night with musicians & entertainers featuring. Make sure that you book a DJ or band that is right for you and your friends. Don't book a Reggae band if you don't like Reggae! Make sure that your DJ plays music for your crowd, do not book a house DJ if you want to dance to many genres of music, you will be disappointed
Band Vs DJ
As DJ's, we enjoy working with bands however, in our experience most bands play 2 x 45 minutes or 1 x 90 minutes sets. So, what are you going to do once the band has finished if you don't have a DJ?
Treatment of Artistes
Remember that your DJ's, Musicians and Entertainers are all performers. It is difficult to perform whilst you are being verbally or physically attacked by guests at a party when they have consumed to much alcohol or been on the nalty salt. If you are aware of anyone with a rep for abusive behaviour, please let the performers know. They can bring their tin hats.
